Why is it important to get out of your comfort zone?

Getting out of your comfort zone is a huge part of developing confidence and a self-esteem. The more you get comfortable in your own skin, the more you will begin to trust yourself and discover who you are. If you don’t try to venture out of your comfort zone at all, you will remain trapped inside of yourself. There will be no room for growth or change. You may begin to believe that you are not good enough because you have never tried to challenge yourself.

As you begin to venture out of your comfort zone, you will begin to discover your best self. You will begin to trust yourself more and you will begin to trust your own instincts. You will begin to trust your own thoughts, feelings, and ideas more. You will begin to trust your own intuition and follow what you know to be true. When you get out of your comfort zone, you will learn that you are capable of doing so much more than you ever thought possible.

What can happen if you step outside your comfort zone?

1. You'll get a better perspective on your life and what you want it to look like.

Have you ever suddenly realized that your life is really dull? That might have been because you were staying within a certain comfort zone. Taking a chance out of your comfort zone can be a great way to gain some new perspective on yourself and the world around you. By stepping out, you'll notice what is important in life and how different perspectives make things seem.

2. You'll find new opportunities for personal growth.

If you're stuck inside your comfort zone, then it's unlikely that you're taking advantage of all the opportunities out there for personal development. Stepping outside may inspire you to take on challenges in other parts of your life, or even embark on a new venture that would help improve the well-being of others.

3. You'll see the world differently.

When people step outside their comfort zones, they often experience an "aha" moment where they finally see things differently or realize something they never thought about before. This can also be very empowering when something changes in our lives, and we feel like we are finally living the life we deserve.

4. It will make everything more fun.

Life isn't all work and no play! If there's one time to give yourself permission to relax, it's when doing something outside your comfort zone.

How do you get out of your comfort zone?

Identify your comfort zonesYour comfort zones are the areas of your life that you know best. They are the areas where you feel most comfortable and confident. As you push yourself out of your comfort zone in one area, you'll notice that it's just as easy to push yourself out of your comfort zone in other areas.

Identify what pushes your comfort zonesThis way, you can identify which situations you might be shying away from and why you’re avoiding them. This is important because if you aren’t pushing your comfort zones, you will never begin to challenge yourself.

Identify what scares youThis is important because if you don’t feel a little scared, you will never begin to push yourself. It can be as simple as identifying your insecurities and fears and then brainstorming what they are.

Identify what you enjoy doing. By identifying what you enjoy doing and where you enjoy doing things, you can begin challenging yourself to step out of your comfort zones by identifying what you want to work on and what you want to change.

Make a list of your comfort zones

Think of everything that makes you feel comfortable and confident. Now, think of everything that makes you feel uncomfortable and insecure. This is your comfort zone and your discomfort zone. The things in your comfort zone are going to be easy, fun, and exciting. The things in your discomfort zone are going to be challenging, and often, a little bit scary.

Take a piece of paper and make a list of all of the things that you feel most comfortable and confident in. Try to include everything that you can think of. Now, take another piece of paper and make a list of everything that you feel most uncomfortable and insecure in. Again, try to include everything that comes to mind. The list of your comfort zones and your discomfort zones is going to be very different for everyone. But, what is important is that you identify what is similar among all of your friends and family members.

Keep going until you figure out how to do it

It’s easy to be overwhelmed when you are beginning to venture out of your comfort zone. It can be easy to get stuck, to doubt yourself, and to feel extremely uncomfortable. But, you must continue to push yourself. You must find ways to make yourself feel a little better when you begin to venture out of your comfort zone.

Once you begin to figure out how to do it, the rest will follow. You might not know what the answer is or how to do it at first, but keep pushing yourself and you will figure it out. As you push yourself, you will begin to notice that you are figuring it out. You may also begin to notice that your anxiety, nervousness, or excitement will begin to subside as you push yourself.

Things you can do to get yourself ready

1. Prepare for the challenge

Everyone's different, so what may work for one person may not work for another. But if you want to get out of your comfort zone, then it's a good idea to prepare yourself for the challenges that may come up. For example, if you're looking to do something new but are afraid that you'll embarrass yourself or do something embarrassing, then think about what you would do before going through with the activity.

2. Set some boundaries

Setting boundaries is important when entering into a new situation because they allow us to be in charge of our own actions and reactions instead of letting other people control them. There are lots of different ways to set boundaries, including telling others what kind of person you want to be, or setting limits on how long an activity will last for each day. These ideas can help you determine what kind of person you want to become and how well-prepared you are for any potential challenges that might come up during an activity.

3. Read about related topics

If there is an activity you've been wanting to try but are scared because it seems like too much, then reading about related topics might help. Researching things like how other people have tried similar activities or whether the activity or action is actually difficult will help make your decision easier before you get started.

4. Accept yourself for who you are

You have to accept yourself as you are. You may not be perfect, and that's okay. The first step to accepting yourself is being comfortable with who you are right now. Once you know your strengths, your weaknesses, and what you're good at, it will be easier for you to accept yourself in a new situation.

5. Keep up with the pace

To get past your comfort zone, one of the best things you can do is stay up-to-date on current events. This will give your brain something to keep thinking about throughout the day. Read articles online or watch a podcast that discusses what's going on in the world today. With all the different things happening, there's bound to be something that sparks your interest and gets you thinking about what it would be like to experience it for yourself.

6. Follow a plan of action

Have a plan for what you will do. It's also important to have a plan for what will happen if things go wrong. If you don't know how you'll react, then it's more likely that you won't be able to control your emotions when something goes wrong.

Put together the steps you want to take, then break them down into smaller, manageable tasks. For instance, if you want to learn how to cook a new dish, then decide what ingredients and utensils you'll need and find a recipe you want to try. Then, make a list of how much time it will take and write down a timeline on when it will be done.

Try not to focus on the outcome while working through the process. If something goes wrong while learning a new skill or trying an activity, talk about the experience without focusing on the outcome so it doesn't become a discouraging factor in pushing yourself further in this process.

Living your life without ever challenging yourself will leave you feeling as though you are never going to grow and never going to accomplish anything new. Getting out of your comfort zone may seem scary, but it is actually one of the best things that you can do for your life. The more you get outside of your comfort zone, the more you will begin to discover your best self.

Try venturing outside your comfort zone often, whether that means talking to a new person, trying a new activity or doing something you’ve always been afraid of. See what happens!
